The All-New BMW i3
The BMW i3 represents BMW Group’s first volume produced model driven purely by electric power.
BMW’s rear wheel drive and 50:50 weight distribution continues on with BMW’s first emission free car. The i3 weighs in only at 1,195 kg, attributed by carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP). The stiffness of CFRP passenger cell structure allows the omission of B-pillars and the alignment of electric motor directly on rear drive axle also removes the centre tunnel and increasing the boot capacity to maximum 1,100 litres.
Powering the i3 is a hybrid synchronous electric motor with maximum output of 170 hp and 250 Nm of torque with 18.8 kWh lithium ion battery. The battery can be recharged from domestic power socket, BMW i Wallbox or public charging station. Powerful electric motor together with lightweight propels the i3 from 0 to 100 km/g in just 7.2s.
Driver will be able to choose COMFORT, ECO PRO or ECO PRO+ mode which is good for 160 km range. However, if you do long distance, BMW provides you with an option of 2 cylinder petrol engine (called range extender) to maintain minimum charge level thus extending range to 300 km. Various technologies featured in the car, ranging from the usual safety features such as DSC, DTC, to ConnectedDrive which features BMW i functions to Cruise Control which includes Stop & Go function.
The BMW i3 is produced at BMW plant at Leipzig using 100% renewable energy.
